Quick update →
I realize last week’s “rare hip-hop week” was only two posts, and that’s kind of weak. I had a third post ready for Friday, but I decided to hold off and contact one of the artists to see if he minded me posting the album. If I haven’t heard back in a few more days, I’ll go ahead and post it. In the meantime, I have a punk demo tape from the mid-80s coming up soon, too.

I love MediaMonkey’s AutoPlaylist option that dynamically scans your library based on user-set filters and creates a playlist for your listening pleasure. Here are a few I’ve set up that I love going to when I don’t quite know what I want to listen to: ADD Playlist: Under 30 minutes - Follows the ADDreviews model. A.Z.: “Street Wise” →
This marks the first out-of-print commercial release posted here on Normal Bias, and it’s a pretty rare one, as far as I can tell. It’s a solo album by AZ, but not the AZ you’re thinking of. This is the 80s Harlem gangster Azie Faison who also recorded with the group Mobbstyle. AZ and two other Harlem compatriots, Alpo and Rich Porter, were portrayed in the 2002 movie Paid in Full and a...

Thanks to Chris for pointing out this washingtonpost.com mention of One Sentence: Yo! Long Winded One…: What do you think of these? Gene Weingarten: These are one-sentence novels. Most are poor, but if you search the all-time winners, you find some that are entertaining. I liked: “The mysterious animal hissing under the towel turned out to be a can of Right Guard.” “Most are poor”? Really? ...

The Best of WPRB →
I was stoked this past weekend when I came across a crate of tapes I’d misplaced a few months ago, before starting this site.  At the very top of the crate was my “Best of Raw Deal” tape (renamed for this post “Best of WPRB” since it goes back to the Club Crush days).  I think I had intended to build on this tape as time went on, but never got beyond the 45 minutes included here. But, what a 45...

Rare Hip-Hop Week begins tomorrow →
I’ve decided the best way to come back after a long break is to come back strong. So, starting tomorrow will be three posts in three days featuring some super-rare hip-hop. I’ve never seen this stuff pop up on any music blog (though I certainly could have missed it), so hang tight for some good ish.

Xuan Saigon →
I’ve mentioned before that finding a good variety of veggie food can be difficult in Loudoun County, VA.  It gets trickier the further west you go.  Leesburg offers a few restaurants with a few veggie options, but nothing anywhere near an all-vegetarian restaurant. Thankfully, there’s Xuan Saigon, Leesburg’s only Vietnamese restaurant, located on Fort Evans Road in the same shopping center as...

A Double Dose of Dreena →
Eat, Drink & Be Vegan Dreena Burton Arsenal Pulp Press, 2007  http://vivelevegan.blogspot.com/ What I like most about Dreena’s books, in addition to the great food photography, is that she doesn’t rehash the same familiar recipes you find in a lot of other cookbooks.  Plus, while her recipes sometimes call for ingredients you may not have used before, they remain simple to prepare and...
